Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli announced that global issues of melting snow and rising sea levels would be raised at the United Nations General Assembly’s 79th session. Oli addressed Nepal’s House of Representatives before his visit to the United States, marking his first foreign trip as prime minister. The trip is planned for September 20, with the ‘Summit of the Future’ to be held on September 22-23 at the UN headquarters.
During the summit, an action-oriented agreement focused on sustainable development, financing, global peace, and other international issues will be discussed. Oli assured that Nepal’s prestige would not be lowered during his participation.
The prime minister mentioned that he will present Nepal’s clear stance on safeguarding humanity, the Earth, and the eco-system of the Himalayas and oceans. He also intends to emphasize Nepal’s non-interference policy as outlined by the UN Charter.
Oli further expressed that Nepal seeks to maintain good relations with its neighbors and expects the same in return. Additionally, Nepal aims to collaborate with the global community to address its developmental challenges. Oli will highlight Nepal’s constitution, democratic values, national interest, and international commitment during the UN General Assembly.
