The Bollywood folk horror film Tumbbad, initially released in 2018 with modest reception, has gained cult status over the years. Responding to significant demand from fans, the film has been re-released in theaters.
Since its re-release, Tumbbad has earned an impressive ₹1.65 crores nett, significantly surpassing its original box office collection. The strong turnout has prompted the makers to announce a sequel during the re-release screenings.
Titled Tumbbad 2, the sequel will be produced by Sohum Shah, who also starred in and produced the first film. The success of the re-release suggests that Tumbbad 2 could achieve substantial box office success, potentially reaching ₹500 crores if executed effectively.
The original Tumbbad was directed by Rahi Anil Barve and co-produced by Aanand L. Rai, Anand Gandhi, Mukesh Shah, and Amit Shah. Key roles were played by Harsh K, Jyoti Malshe, Rudra Soni, Anita Date-Kelkar, Madhav Hari, and Piyush Kaushik. The film’s music was composed by Ajay-Atul, with the background score by Jesper Kyd.
