Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday, according to Ukraine’s parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The resignation will be reviewed at a future plenary meeting, though no specific date has been set. Lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko commented that the resignation was anticipated and might be linked to upcoming challenges for Ukraine.
Kuleba has served as Foreign Minister since 2020, playing a key role in Ukraine’s war with Russia and securing international partnerships. On September 3, Ukrainska Pravda reported that Kuleba’s resignation was expected and that a replacement was being considered. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is suggested as the likely candidate for the position.
Kuleba’s resignation is part of a broader trend, with several high-profile Ukrainian ministers resigning recently. These include Strategic Industries Minister Alexander Kamyshin, Justice Minister Denys Maliuska, Ecology Minister Ruslan Strilets, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna, and Deputy Prime Minister and Reintegration Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. The head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Vitalii Koval, also resigned after nine months in office.
The reasons behind these resignations remain unclear. President Zelenskyy had previously mentioned that further cabinet changes could be expected following a reorganization of his inner circle.
