Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major achievement on Monday, fulfilling the 2021 election promise of providing 100,000 government jobs. The milestone was reached with the distribution of 23,956 appointment letters, bringing the total number of jobs created since 2021 to 124,345.
In a post on X, CM Sarma celebrated this accomplishment, stating, Assam has reached a new milestone. We promised 100,000 government jobs in 2021, and with today’s distribution of 23,956 letters, we’ve achieved 124,345 jobs so far. We’ve met a crucial demand from our teachers.
He also pledged to create an additional 50,000 jobs by May 2025, aiming for a total of 200,000 positions, all delivered without corruption. The appointment letters were handed out during a ceremony at Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu added that the new teachers would be posted to schools where they previously served as SSA or Statepool contractual teachers. Following a High Court order lifting a stay on a recent recruitment advertisement, the government has completed the selection process for the Special Recruitment Drive, with 27,790 candidates applying.
In the 2021 assembly elections, Chief Minister Sarma promised 100,000 jobs, and as of August 26, 100,389 appointment letters have been issued, including those for employees in Bodoland Territorial Council and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
