Following Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League, manager Erik Ten Hag acknowledged his team’s costly mistakes and praised Liverpool’s clinical finishing. Luis Diaz’s brace and a goal from Mohamed Salah sealed United’s second loss in three games against their rivals.
After the match, Ten Hag, speaking to sources, noted, we made mistakes and Liverpool were very clinical in finishing. All three goals were individual errors. The last one, you could debate the positioning of our midfielders, but Liverpool executed brilliantly. We must acknowledge their performance and be humble.
Diaz capitalized on two first-half mistakes by Casemiro. The first came in the 35th minute when a poor pass from Casemiro was intercepted by Ryan Gravenberch, leading to Diaz’s opening goal. Just six minutes later, Casemiro was dispossessed, allowing Salah to set up Diaz for a low shot past Andre Onana. Casemiro was substituted at halftime for 20-year-old Toby Collyer, pushing Kobbie Mainoo into a deeper role. Mainoo was later dispossessed by Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai found Salah, who completed the scoring in the 56th minute.
Ten Hag defended Casemiro, stating, He knows the game well and will bounce back. He’s shown great character and has been crucial for us in midfield. We’ll continue to improve. Liverpool now sits second in the table with nine points, while United lingers in 14th place with just three points.
