Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on social media that 12 rail projects, including a new suburban corridor, are underway in Mumbai’s Central Railway Division.
Phase 1 of the new fifth and sixth lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kurla is expected to finish by the end of next year, enhancing local train services by separating local and express routes. The sixth line between Mumbai Central and Borivali is progressing, with 8.9 km of the Khar-Goregaon stretch completed. The Harbour Line extension from Goregaon to Borivali will help reduce congestion on the Andheri-Borivali route.
Additional projects include the Virar-Dahanu Road quadrupling for better connectivity, the Panvel-Karjat line for a new suburban link, and new chord lines to improve travel times and ease congestion.
