Nicole Kidman described feeling exposed, vulnerable, and frightened during the premiere of her erotic thriller Babygirl at the 81st Venice Film Festival. Directed by Halina Reijn, the film features Kidman as a high-powered CEO who risks everything when she starts an affair with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.
Kidman shared her mixed emotions, saying, it definitely leaves me exposed and vulnerable and frightened when it’s shared with the world, according to sources. She admitted that everyone involved was a bit nervous but expressed pride in presenting the film at such a prestigious festival, especially with women leading the project.
She praised Reijn for her approach, noting, what made it compelling was working with Halina as my director. I felt she was not going to exploit me, and I was very much a part of the story we wanted to tell.
In an Instagram video, Kidman also spoke about her commitment to supporting women in cinema. She emphasized her support for female directors and the importance of changing industry dynamics, mentioning, I’m putting my weight behind women directors and trying to change the ratio.
Kidman appreciated the warmth and respect from Reijn and the team, noting that working with a female director on such intimate scenes provided a unique and supportive environment. Reijn, who made her US debut with the slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies, created a collaborative and caring atmosphere for the cast.
