The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for the immediate reopening of the post offices on St. John’s Road and in Vasantnagar, which were recently sealed by BBMP officials. AAP city president, Dr. Satish Kumar, addressed reporters on Wednesday, expressing concern over the closure and urging authorities to vacate the premises promptly to allow the post offices to resume their operations.
Dr. Kumar explained that the post offices, located in BBMP-owned buildings, were sealed due to non-payment of rent. He criticized the authorities for their harsh action, stating that the Indian Postal Department holds a significant place in the nation’s heritage and history, providing affordable postal services to the public.
BBMP officials acknowledged the unfortunate closure of these service sector offices due to the rent issue. Dr. Kumar argued that post offices, which serve the common people, should be allowed to operate without the burden of rent or fees, especially when ample land and buildings are provided to businessmen, influencers, and politicians without similar demands. He emphasized that waiving the rent for these post offices would not result in a significant financial loss to the government.
