Daniel Evans triumphed over Karen Khachanov in the longest match in US Open history, which stretched for 5 hours and 35 minutes. Evans won the grueling first-round encounter with scores of 6-7(8), 7-6(2), 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4. Each of the five sets exceeded an hour, with the third set being the longest at 72 minutes. This match surpassed the previous record by nine minutes.

The former record was held by the 1992 men’s singles semifinal between Michael Chang and Stefan Edberg, which lasted 5 hours and 26 minutes. Edberg eventually won and went on to clinch the title against Pete Sampras.

In a post-match interview, Evans commented on the marathon, saying, ‘I was just trying to stay out there as long as possible. It’s the longest I’ve ever played. I even had to check which set we were in during the fourth set.’

Despite Khachanov hitting 79 winners compared to Evans’ 53, it wasn’t enough. Evans converted eight of his 18 break points, while Khachanov managed eight of 23. Evans also excelled on his first serve, winning 74% of those points. Overall, Evans secured 201 points to Khachanov’s 191 and now leads their ATP Head2Head series 5-0.
