Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a 15-member Indian squad in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the UAE starting October 3. The team, which reached the semi-finals in the last edition, is in Group A alongside Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Harmanpreet will be supported by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, with Shafali Verma expected to open the batting. Dayalan Hemalatha, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh will strengthen the batting lineup, while Richa and Yastika Bhatia will share wicket-keeping duties.
The bowling attack includes Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, Asha Sobhana, Sajana Sajeevan, and Shreyanka Patil. The squad features several all-rounders, including Harmanpreet, Sajana, Sobhana, and Deepti.
Yastika and Shreyanka’s participation is dependent on fitness, as both have been dealing with injuries. The team will also have three traveling reserves: Uma Chetry, Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor, with Raghvi Bist and Priya Mishra as non-traveling reserves.
In the 2023 T20 World Cup, Australia won the title, defeating South Africa by 19 runs. India, having lost to Australia by five runs, reached the semi-finals.
