Bengaluru
Raichur University has canceled its recruitment notification for 18 Assistant Professor positions. This decision follows a petition submitted to Governor Thawar Chand Gelhot by the Karnataka Nayak Union. The petition demanded that 7 percent reservations for Scheduled Tribe candidates be implemented in the recruitment process.
A delegation from the Karnataka Nayak Union, led by State President Ramesh Hirejamburu, met Governor Gelhot at Raj Bhavan. They pointed out that applications were invited online by the Karnataka Examinations Authority for the 18 posts. According to government regulations, 7 percent of these posts should have been reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates, which equates to at least 2 positions. The delegation claimed that Raichur University did not allocate any positions to Scheduled Tribe candidates, which they argued was unjust.
The Karnataka Nayak Union urged the Governor to instruct the Karnataka Examination Authority and Raichur University to cancel the current recruitment notification and issue a new one that complies with the reservation rules. Governor Gelhot responded positively to the appeal and contacted the Principal Secretary of the Department of Higher Education to address the issue.
The Vice President of the Karnataka Nayak Union, Viresh Naik, and other union officials, including MR Rajani, Garuda Naik, and Dr. Ravikumar, were also present during the meeting.
