The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday ordered a halt on the announcement of results for ongoing recruitments in Haryana until the assembly elections are completed. The elections for Haryana’s 90 assembly constituencies are set for October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 4.

The decision followed a complaint from Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who alleged a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the recruitment processes for 5,600 police constable positions and various other roles managed by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC).

The ECI reviewed the complaint and confirmed that recruitment advertisements for these positions were published after July 16, 2024, well within the MCC guidelines. The recruitment for HPSC posts was already in progress before August 16, 2024, and no MCC violations were found in these statutory processes.

However, to ensure a fair election environment, the ECI has directed that the results of these recruitment processes not be announced until after the elections. This measure is intended to prevent any potential advantage or perception of bias during the election period.

Haryana has 2.01 crore voters, including 1.06 crore males, 0.95 crore females, 4.52 lakh first-time voters, and 40.95 lakh young voters.
