Pakistan’s second Test match against Bangladesh, originally scheduled for August 30 in Karachi, will now be held in Rawalpindi. The change is due to ongoing construction work at Karachi’s National Stadium, which is being upgraded for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy, according to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday.
The PCB explained that heavy construction equipment and the need to follow strict redevelopment timelines at the National Stadium made it impractical to host the match there. The decision was made after consulting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and now both Test matches between Pakistan and Bangladesh will take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The first Test starts on August 21, and tickets will be available both online and offline starting Monday.
Construction noise and dust at the National Stadium could disrupt play and affect the health of players and officials, the PCB noted. Thus, holding both Tests in Rawalpindi will avoid these issues and ensure the stadium is ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Looking ahead, England is set to play three Tests in Pakistan in October, with the second Test scheduled for Karachi. The PCB has not yet confirmed if this match will also be moved, but they are working with construction experts to ensure a safe and secure environment for the games.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh ‘A’ will continue their series in Islamabad, with the second four-day match starting on August 20 at the Islamabad Club.
