Blood-like liquid found on roads causes panic

Hyderabad

Panic struck residents of Venkatadri Nagar, near the Jeedimetla Industrial Estate in Hyderabad, when a red liquid resembling blood began flowing onto the streets from an overflowing manhole. The liquid’s strong odor and difficulty in breathing caused further distress among locals. Fearing the worst, they contacted municipal authorities for clarification.

The officials reassured them that the liquid was not blood but a red-colored chemical leaked from nearby industrial units. Residents claimed that some factories in the area discharge chemicals directly into the drainage system, and the municipal authorities have not addressed the issue. The situation worsened as the manhole overflowed, flooding the streets with the chemical, raising concerns about its health effects.

The Telangana Pollution Control Board visited the site, assuring residents that steps would be taken to prevent further chemical discharge from industries.

In a separate incident, locals thwarted an attempt to dump toxic industrial waste into the Musi River at Bapughat. The truck driver, who tried to unload the chemicals, fled before police arrived, leaving the truck behind. The police have launched an investigation. Residents voiced their concerns about the ongoing illegal dumping of waste into the already-polluted river and called on the government to address the issue, especially with the Musi Riverfront Development Project aimed at revitalizing the river.
