Indian shooter Arjun Babuta secured a spot in the 10m air rifle final at the Olympic Games by finishing seventh in the qualification round on Sunday. The 25-year-old posted scores of 105.7, 104.9, 105.5, 105.4, 104.0, and 104.6, totaling 630.1 points.
Babuta will compete for a medal in the eight-shooter final on Monday, following a narrow miss in the mixed team event with Ramita Jindal on Saturday, where they placed sixth. The Chandigarh native, part of the national squad since 2016, earned his Olympic berth at the Asian Shooting Championships in Changwon last year.
In the same event, Army man Sandeep Singh scored 629.3 and finished 12th, concluding his Paris campaign. Singh, participating in his first Olympics, gained valuable experience after replacing world champion Rudrankksh Patil in the selection trials earlier this year. China’s Sheng Lihao led the qualifiers with a score of 631.7, narrowly missing the qualification record set by Yang Haoran at the Tokyo Games.
