Under the leadership of Karnataka State Farmers Association and Hasiru Sene State President Kodihalli Chandrasekhara, a protest was conducted to demand several actions, including the repeal of three agricultural acts and waiver of farmers’ salaries. Despite heavy rain, activists of the Farmers’ Association rallied from Rani Channamma Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, expressing their discontent with the state and central governments.
Immediate deposit of outstanding sugarcane bills and crop compensation funds for affected farmers was demanded. Protestors also called for an end to unnecessary obstruction of farmers’ vehicles by the police, which caused inconvenience to the public. They criticized the survey department for charging excessive fees and producing inaccurate maps. Additionally, they sought seven hours of three-phase electricity daily for agricultural pump sets, proposing specific hours from 6 pm to 7 am as night-time electricity.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan assured that necessary actions would be considered, promising to discuss the demands with relevant authorities.
Earlier, Kodihalli Chandrasekhara criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration as anti-farmer, noting the unfulfilled promises of MSP implementation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014. He expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s lack of understanding regarding the plight of Karnataka farmers, accusing the Chief Minister of neglect and involvement in scandals.
The protest included participation from State Vice President Bhimashi Gadadi, District President Shankar Madalli, Raju Marave, Ravi Angadi, and others.
