Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has confirmed that agricultural land is being registered as estates despite not being legally converted. In response to MLA SR Vishwanath’s question in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, he acknowledged that agricultural lands are unofficially registered as estates. The Minister expressed regret over these illegal activities and assured that the government is committed to addressing these irregularities.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar have also pledged to stop these practices. However, it was noted that direct intervention is not feasible. The authorities will be consulted to address these issues through legal means.
The Minister explained that during registration, an “Other” category is used for plots on agricultural land. This option is misused to register agricultural land as Gramthana or shelter sites. To prevent such misuse, online account integration is necessary. Direct linkage of accounts from Gram Panchayats or municipalities to the system is required to prevent bogus registrations.
An act to address this issue was prepared and presented in the last session. The delay in obtaining the governor’s assent and the three-month election period have caused the implementation delay. However, the government remains committed to ensuring that only genuine accounts from Gram Panchayats or municipalities are registered.
