On Monday, in the assembly session, BJP leader V. Sunil Kumar raised concerns about issues related to Kumki land, which is land reserved for forest and agricultural use. The problem has increased in South Kannada and Udupi districts. Sunil Kumar requested that Kumki land in possession be sanctioned under clauses 53-57 and 93 cc.
Minister Krishna Byregowda responded to the question, stating that Kumki land cannot be allotted according to the law. He clarified that no false information or false hopes would be given regarding land allotment. Byregowda emphasized that the law prohibits the allotment of Kumki land, and the truth must be told, even if it is unpleasant.
The Minister acknowledged the need to consider the cases of poor people who have built houses on Kumki land. He suggested that if land cannot be granted according to clause 94 cc in Goma’s place, people should come to him for assistance. However, he reiterated that Kumki land itself cannot be granted. The eviction of poor people from these houses also cannot be carried out. The Minister advised that if there is any legal way to address these issues, it should be explored honestly and positively.
