Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay visited the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on Monday. They received a warm welcome at Vadodara airport from Gujarat Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma, reflecting the state’s hospitality traditions. The King and Prime Minister are on a three-day tour of Gujarat, and their arrival was marked by cultural performances, including traditional Gujarati garba and drumming.
The Information Department of Gujarat highlighted the tradition of treating guests as divine, with a post on X noting, King of Bhutan Shri Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Shri Tshering Tobgay were warmly welcomed at Vadodara Airport by Minister Jagdishbhai Vishwakarma and other dignitaries.
Following their welcome, the dignitaries proceeded to Ektanagar. High-profile officials including Mayor Pinkiben Soni, Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Sudhakar Dalela, and various protocol and police officials were present to greet them.
Earlier, on July 20, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Bhutanese counterpart Aum Pema Choden reviewed the 13th Five-Year Plan’s development cooperation. The Indian Embassy in Bhutan reported satisfaction with progress on various projects under the 12th Five-Year Plan, covering sectors like connectivity, infrastructure, health, education, and digital economy.
