Government First Grade Women’s College, renowned for its education and literary contributions, faces severe infrastructure challenges amidst heavy rain. The college, located near RN Shetty Stadium office, is in a dilapidated state, with classrooms flooding and various sections showing signs of disrepair. Over 300 female students attend classes here, taught by both permanent and guest lecturers.
Minister Santosh Lad, after visiting the college, pledged to provide a new building following its precarious condition due to the ongoing rain. The media coverage prompted Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu to inspect the college and acknowledge the urgent need for action. Plans are being made for both temporary and permanent solutions to address the building’s leaks and structural issues.
Previously, the former District Commissioner and Minister-in-charge advocated for a new college building, resulting in the government promptly allocating Rs 3.5 crore for construction. A sum of Rs 1.16 crore has been released this year, with the Karnataka Housing Board tasked to commence construction promptly as per government instructions.
