On Friday, a minor earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was felt in parts of Manipur and nearby Nagaland. The tremor affected northern Manipur’s Ukhrul district and neighboring areas in Nagaland. This region, which borders Myanmar, experienced the quake at a depth of 30 kilometers.
A disaster management official from Manipur confirmed that there have been no reports of injuries or property damage from the quake.
Recent earthquakes in the northeastern states, including Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, have raised concerns among authorities, prompting efforts to construct quake-resistant buildings. The National Centre for Seismology notes that this region is among the world’s most earthquake-prone areas, ranked sixth globally.
