A terrorist attack on the Bannu cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has resulted in the deaths of eight security personnel, while security forces neutralized at least ten attackers. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the assault occurred early Monday when ten militants attempted to breach the cantonment. They crashed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, causing part of it to collapse and damaging infrastructure.
The ISPR reported that a suicide blast led to the deaths of the eight security officers, while the attackers were ultimately eliminated during the military’s counteraction. In the subsequent operation, our troops successfully engaged the terrorists, resulting in the death of all ten, stated the ISPR.
This swift response by security forces is credited with averting a larger disaster, protecting innocent lives, and underscoring their commitment to fighting terrorism. The attack was attributed to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), specifically the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, which the ISPR claims operates from Afghanistan.
Pakistan has reiterated its stance against engaging in talks with the TTP and intends to take action against the group throughout the country. Authorities assert that the TTP receives support from Afghanistan under the Taliban government, a claim denied by Afghan officials. This incident emphasizes the ongoing threat posed by TTP militants, particularly near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
