External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s ongoing support for Mauritius in its journey toward progress during his two-day visit to the country. Speaking at the inauguration of new projects and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Port Louis, Jaishankar expressed pride in being a partner in Mauritius’s modern development. This visit marks his first bilateral trip to Mauritius since the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi began.
Mauritius is one of the first nations I am visiting in my current term, highlighting the strong bond between our countries, Jaishankar noted. He also conveyed Prime Minister Modi’s greetings to Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, appreciating his presence at Modi’s recent inauguration.
During their discussions, Jaishankar and Jugnauth covered various topics, including development partnership, defense and maritime cooperation, trade relations, and cultural exchanges. Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to supporting Mauritius’s growth, pointing out that their relationship aligns with several of India’s foreign policy initiatives, such as the Neighbourhood First Policy and the Africa Forward Initiative. He highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties shared between the two nations, underscoring the importance of their enduring partnership.
