Greta Gerwig, the celebrated director of films like ‘Lady Bird’, ‘Little Women’, and the Oscar-winning ‘Barbie’, will be honored with the 2024 Pioneer of the Year Award by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation. This award acknowledges Gerwig’s remarkable contributions to the film industry, highlighting her leadership, community service, and philanthropy.
Jeff Goldstein, President of Warner Bros Domestic Distribution, called Gerwig a dynamic filmmaker with extraordinary vision who entertains and inspires audiences everywhere. Kyle Davies, President of Distribution at Bleecker Street Media, also expressed pride in recognizing her achievements in cinema.
Gerwig’s films ‘Lady Bird’ and ‘Little Women’ received multiple Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Her work on ‘Barbie’, co-written with Noah Baumbach, made history as the first film directed solely by a woman to surpass $1 billion in global box office earnings.
Beyond directing, Gerwig has also made her mark as an actress and screenwriter, with notable roles in ‘Frances Ha’ and ‘Mistress America’. Her upcoming projects include an adaptation of CS Lewis’ ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ series for Netflix.
The Pioneer of the Year Award ceremony will take place on September 25 at the Beverly Hilton. This event will not only honor Gerwig’s achievements but also raise funds for the Pioneers Assistance Fund.
