A protest was staged by members of the Karnataka Rajya Nekar Seva Sangha at Nekar Bhavan, urging plots to be allotted to weavers through the Karnataka Handloom Development Corporation (KHDC). Slogans were raised against the state government, alleging that weavers were driven to suicide due to injustice. They demanded adequate compensation for the families of the deceased weavers. The protesters also accused the KHDC of misappropriating crores of rupees and called for a thorough investigation and action against those responsible. T Shivalinga, State President, mentioned that KHDC has operated in the state for 40 years and noted a decline in the number of active weaver families over the past decade, with only 4,100 weavers currently engaged compared to 48,000 previously.
