A new lake is under construction and being filled with water in Yalaburga constituency, announced Basavaraja Rayaraddi, Economic Adviser to the Chief Minister. In a meeting with elders and farmers, discussions centered on acquiring land for the project to build 38 lakes across Sidnekoppa, Malekoppa, and Ningapura villages, funded with Rs 970 crore. Yalaburga faces water scarcity with only small lakes in many villages.
Legal, financial, technical, and geographical challenges were resolved to secure approval for the lake construction, described as the state’s largest current project. The ongoing lake construction is in Yuddopadi, emphasizing the need for farmers’ cooperation in providing land. Addressing villagers’ concerns over a disputed school site in Sompuru village, Rayaraddi urged for amicable resolutions.
Assistant Commissioner Captain Mahesh Malagitti confirmed the school site was previously marked in Pahani records. Manjunath from Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited outlined plans for constructing a lake beyond the Koppal Lift Irrigation area and laying new pipelines from Narayanpur.Present at the meeting were Tahsildar Mahesh Malagitthi, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Santhosh Biradara, Contractor Shadaksharayya Navali Hiremath, and others.
