Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal is set to depart for New Delhi on Wednesday to participate in the Second BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat, as announced by Nepal’s Foreign Ministry. The retreat, scheduled for July 11-12, 2024, aims to strengthen regional cooperation among BIMSTEC member countries, focusing on mutual interests and collaborative opportunities within the framework.
During her visit, Foreign Secretary Lamsal will engage in discussions aimed at enhancing partnerships in various sectors such as security, connectivity, trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts across the Bay of Bengal region. The agenda includes a scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside the BIMSTEC delegation.
The Foreign Ministers and their delegations from BIMSTEC member states will collectively meet with Prime Minister Modi during their visit to Delhi, as highlighted in the Foreign Ministry’s press release. Accompanying Lamsal will be a senior official from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they are expected to return to Kathmandu on July 13.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India underscored that the retreat provides an informal platform for BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers to explore avenues for broader and deeper cooperation.
