Due to heavy rainfall, precautionary measures have been implemented by the district administration in Udupi, as stated by Lakshmi Hebbalkar, District in-charge Minister for Women and Child Development.

In remarks to the media, Hebbalkar noted that a progress review meeting had already been held in Udupi to prepare for the rainy season. Instructions were issued to remove approximately 400 trees at risk of falling, and 80 electric poles have been relocated.

In some low-lying areas, homes have been inundated with water, prompting the relocation of residents to care centers. Learning from issues faced last year during the rainy season, special precautions have been taken this year. Some houses have suffered damage due to landslides, resulting in one fatality. Immediate relief measures have been instructed to the district administration, Hebbalkar confirmed. She also highlighted that Udupi city lacks an underground drainage system, leading to water accumulation on roads during rains. Plans have been devised to construct an underground drainage system, with the tender process set to begin in a couple of weeks. Schools and colleges have been closed on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall on Monday, she added.
