At a ceremony held at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara emphasized equality under the law for all, regardless of landowners or wage workers.
He underscored the importance of abiding by laws applicable to everyone equally, emphasizing the consequences of disregarding them. Dr Parameshwara urged individuals to recognize societal norms and correct any past mistakes they might have made impulsively.
Addressing released prisoners, he encouraged them to embrace a new path in life, emphasizing the opportunity provided by the law for rehabilitation. Noting changes in prison release policies, he highlighted the Supreme Court’s directive to increase the frequency of releases to three times a year.
He advised individuals to avoid repeating past mistakes, urging them to spend their lives positively with their families. Currently, more than 15,000 people are incarcerated across 54 state prisons. Efforts are underway to enhance their rehabilitation through skill training and education initiatives, supported by proposals from Director General of Prisons and Correctional Department Malini Krishnamurthy.
Also present at the event were City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand, Additional Inspector General of Police Prisons and Correctional Department Anand Reddy, and South Division DCP Sara Fatima.
