BBMP Efforts Amid Persistent Water Stagnation And Dengue Threat

Must read

Despite claims by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) of aggressive efforts to tackle mosquito breeding sites, several areas in the city continue to grapple with stagnant water, exacerbating concerns over the spread of vector-borne diseases like dengue.

In BTM Layout near the water tank bus stop, an open drainage has been a cause of worry with stagnant water persisting for days, providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Local residents, including Raja Mani, a nearby shop-owner, expressed frustration over the lack of action despite the drainage being opened.

The drainage here gets clogged during the monsoon, leading to stagnant water that breeds mosquitoes. Despite the issue being known, no steps have been taken to address it, as a resident stated.

Similar grievances were voiced at Kalena Agrahara along Bannerghatta Road, where incomplete civic work has resulted in stagnant drainage water for the past 10 days. Few residents reported illnesses due to mosquito bites and lamented the lack of response from local authorities despite complaints.

Under the Marathahalli Bridge and along Belagere Road in Bellandur, stagnant water due to unfinished storm water drain work has persisted, aggravating mosquito problems according to residents.

Responding to the concerns, a senior BBMP health official assured that the Health Department is working diligently to clear stagnant water spots. While efforts have been successful in clearing many areas, some spots may still remain. Residents are urged to report specific issues, and teams will be dispatched promptly to eradicate mosquito breeding sites, the official affirmed.
