BBMP Enhances Bengaluru Junctions Under Suraksha75 Initiative

Must read

BBMP has initiated the enhancement of 31 intersections across Bengaluru’s East, West, South, and Bommanahalli zones as part of its Suraksha75 initiative. Launched in 2023, the project aims to improve a total of 75 junctions, with specific tender allocations already made for 31 junctions in these zones: 7 in the East, 5 in the South, 8 in Bommanahalli, and 11 in the West.

The enhancements include repairing footpaths, installing kerbs, creating multi-utility zones, upgrading drainage systems, enhancing greenery, installing streetlights, marking lanes, and placing signage boards. This comprehensive approach integrates civil engineering, traffic engineering, and urban design principles to enhance street safety and junction efficiency.

Budgeted at Rs 150 crores in the Karnataka Budget, the Suraksha75 initiative is a collaboration between BBMP, Bengaluru Traffic Police, and World Resources Institute India (WRI India) under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS). It aims to meet international road safety standards, incorporating features such as pedestrian refuge areas, speed calming measures, and marked crossings to ensure safer conditions for all road users.
