MLA ST Somasekhar directed Arun Kumar, the MOH, to ensure prompt responsiveness from health officials towards public health issues in the Yeshavantpur Legislative Assembly Constituency In a meeting convened at his office in Herohalli, Kengeri on Sunday. Highlighting the urgency of tackling the rising dengue cases, MLA Somasekhar stressed the need for a comprehensive treatment framework akin to the Covid model.
MLA highlighted the alarming spread of dengue across Karnataka and urged for stringent measures. Health department personnel advised the public on preventive measures against mosquito breeding to curb the disease’s escalation.
Public discontent surfaced prominently during the session as residents voiced grievances over insufficient fogging operations in various constituency wards. They cited inadequate drainage maintenance during monsoons and the lingering garbage issue post-silt removal as persistent challenges. Frustration mounted as residents lamented the difficulty in reaching officials, with some asserting that MLA interventions are only prompted by public summons.
Residents aired concerns about makeshift settlements of daily wage laborers contributing to stagnant wastewater, a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Criticism was directed at the health department’s perceived inaction in addressing these sanitation issues, which exacerbate health risks.
Critics of the fogging operations expressed dissatisfaction, claiming ineffectiveness due to alleged poor quality of chemicals used. They pointed out that mosquitoes continue to proliferate in areas supposedly treated with fogging.
Responding to public outcry, health officials assured that steps are underway to mitigate mosquito breeding. Plans include releasing guppy fish into lakes to consume mosquito larvae, alongside ongoing and forthcoming fogging initiatives across various wards. Officials acknowledged delays in the fogging tender process but pledged prompt resolution with collaboration from legislative bodies.
