Dengue Threat Looms Over Government School In Ganga Nagar

Must read

Amidst a sharp rise in dengue cases affecting children and young adults citywide, the conditions at a government school in Ganga Nagar have raised serious concerns. The school, while generally well-maintained, faces critical issues that could exacerbate the spread of the disease.

During a recent inspection, stagnant sewage water was discovered on the school premises, posing a significant health risk as it serves as a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes. Furthermore, a damaged hand washing sink has become a site for larval production, further escalating the threat.

The principal of the school expressed dismay, pointing out that despite these conditions, there has been little effort from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to educate teachers and students about dengue prevention. This lack of awareness among school staff could potentially contribute to the spread of the disease among students, who are particularly vulnerable.

Officials from the BBMP, responsible for public health initiatives, have yet to adequately address the cleanliness and awareness needs at the school. This oversight underscores a broader gap in the city’s efforts to contain the dengue outbreak, especially in educational institutions.

In response to these findings, stakeholders are urging the BBMP to prioritize sanitation improvements and educational campaigns in Ganga Nagar and similar government schools.
