Robbers Tried To Escape In Movie Style, 3 Arrested, 5 Injured Including Police

In Lingasuguru town, an incident occurred late Friday night where police were attacked while attempting to arrest robbers. Three policemen and two members of the public sustained injuries. The injured individuals, identified as police constables Ranganatha, Siddappa, Sharanabasava, and locals Veeresh and Narayan, have been admitted to the government hospital.

The accused have been identified as Gururaj Chavan from Hosalli village in Yadgiri district, Kumar Chavan from Kanyakollaur village, Tippana Rathod, Manappa alias Mane Rathod, and Suresha Rathod from Jinakeri team. During night patrolling, police received information that robbers in a Scorpio were headed from Thithinni Bridge towards Lingasuguru. Acting on this, police set up a barricade near Basavasagar Cross and Mata Manikeshwari temple.

The accused attempted to flee upon spotting police near Mata Manikeshwari temple. They tried to drive over the police, who managed to escape and inform their colleagues near Basavasagar Cross. As police moved to apprehend the accused, they attempted to reverse and escape, colliding with a police vehicle and damaging it. The accused’s vehicle’s tire burst, forcing them to stop.

When police tried to arrest them, the accused retaliated by throwing salt powder and attacking with iron rods, machetes, and stones, resulting in serious injuries to police personnel. Onlookers intervened to assist the police. The accused then attacked the public and attempted to escape. Two of them managed to flee, while three were caught by police after their vehicle got stuck in a drain. The injured accused are receiving treatment at the government hospital.

A case has been registered at Lingasuguru Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
