The number of prisoners slain in this incident now stands at two. The other prisoner was hurt in a gas cylinder explosion that occurred inside the Kupwara district jail in J&K on July 19. This inmate passed away in the hospital on Friday.

Syed Tauseef Geelani of the border town of Karnah, who was injured together with nine other prisoners in the Kupwara district jail on July 19, 2024, when a cooking gas cylinder exploded, died on Friday, according to officials. He had been admitted to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar. There are now two people dead in this accident.

It should be noted that Tauseef passed away on Friday despite the fact that the court had granted him bail on Thursday. The body has been given to the family for final ceremonies by the authorities.
