Amid a severe heatwave affecting various parts of the country, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a leader from the Congress party, emphasized the importance of balancing development with environmental preservation on Friday.

The Congress general secretary highlighted concerns about extensive tree felling reported in several states. She pointed out the devastating impact of rising temperatures, which have led to an alarming number of heat-related deaths nationwide. April, in particular, has seen record-breaking heat levels this year, underscoring the severity of the situation.

In a post on X in Hindi, Priyanka Gandhi stated, While development projects are essential, it is imperative to safeguard our environment. It is crucial for all of us to collaborate and pursue development that propels us forward without compromising our surroundings.

The prolonged heatwave has resulted in a significant rise in heatstroke cases across North India, including Delhi. In response, the Centre issued an advisory to hospitals on Wednesday, urging them to establish specialized units to care for heatstroke patients during this critical period.
