The Calcutta High Court granted permission on Wednesday for Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, to hold a protest outside Raj Bhavan regarding post-election violence. Justice Amrita Sinha, sitting as a single judge, specified that the demonstration should occur on July 14, a Sunday, and last only from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Up to 300 people can participate without carrying any weapons, and the court strictly prohibited making any provocative statements during the protest. Additionally, the court emphasized that environmental regulations must be strictly adhered to during the event.
During the hearing, the state government’s legal representative informed the court that the administration had no objections to the protest’s proposed schedule.
