G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, on Friday launched the 10th round of commercial coal mine auctions in Hyderabad, offering 60 mines for sale. The goal is to boost India’s domestic coal production and ensure energy security.

These mines, located in Bihar (3), Chhattisgarh (15), Jharkhand (6), Madhya Pradesh (15), Maharashtra (1), Odisha (16), Telangana (1), and West Bengal (3), include both coking and non-coking coal varieties. Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Ministry of Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena also attended the event.

Reddy emphasized that the auction aims to enhance energy security, foster economic growth, and create numerous job opportunities. He highlighted the auction’s role in promoting transparency, competitiveness, and sustainability in the coal sector.

The Ministry introduced a Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal to streamline coal mine clearances, aiming to boost production through a unified gateway, thereby supporting sectoral progress.

Reddy underscored the government’s commitment to unlocking India’s vast coal reserves through transparent and competitive bidding, which he said would drive economic growth and bolster energy security.

He noted that previous rounds of auctions successfully auctioned 107 coal mines, attracting investments totaling Rs. 38,400 crore and creating employment for three lakh people.
