Bijapur
Paramilitary forces stationed in the area have constructed a ropeway across River Chintavagu, demonstrating their commitment to improving life in insurgency-affected Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh.
The villagers now use the ropeway smoothly to cross the river, stated Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Sundarraj P., acknowledging the contribution of CRPF and ITBP in its construction. Previously, villagers relied solely on small boats, which posed risks during monsoons and sometimes led to fatal accidents.
Grateful for the state government’s initiative, villagers expressed relief from the challenges posed by river flooding, praising the newfound safety and ease of crossing provided by the ropeway.
Since the return of BJP to power in Chhattisgarh six months ago, the government has intensified its efforts against Naxal activities. Alongside the temporary ropeway, security forces are also progressing with the construction of a bridge over Chintavagu River, crucial for anti-Naxal operations.
The bridge construction is underway, expected to take one-and-a-half to two years. Until then, the ropeway serves as a vital lifeline for residents of Pamed and nearby areas, IG Sundarraj explained. This temporary measure addresses connectivity challenges for Pamed, the last village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, until the bridge is completed.
