The National Committee for the Amendment of the Constitution is currently reviewing the 2015 Constitution to make revisions that align with Laos’ evolving needs. The committee has established a secretariat and subcommittees to assist with drafting amendments, a process expected to continue until mid-2025, according to sources on Friday.

A preparatory meeting was held on Thursday where committee members discussed potential amendments, including refining definitions of certain terms to be more precise and accurate. This meeting aimed to summarize and evaluate the implementation of the 2015 Constitution, identifying its strengths, weaknesses, achievements, main issues, and inconsistencies.

Participants reviewed lessons learned and the problems encountered during the formulation of the 2015 Constitution, which will inform the upcoming revisions. The goal is to enhance the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the Constitution, making it more focused and practical.

Various representatives contributed their opinions and suggested clarifications to improve the Constitution’s content. Several committee members committed to providing valuable insights after consulting with other groups. The committee also plans to conduct similar evaluation meetings across Laos to gather further input.
