At the protest near the APMC premises in Gubbi, the anger was expressed by Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) leader Shivshankar Babu regarding delays in depositing money into farmers’ accounts for coconut purchases made at the NAFED center from May 7 to May 15. Over a hundred farmers are affected, and this delay is causing livelihood problems for them.
APMC Secretary Vijayalakshmi assured that officials have been notified, and she expects the issue to be resolved within the next two days. The due payments will be credited to the farmers’ accounts promptly.
Several leaders including Siddalingappa, Siddaramaiah, Mahesh, Manjunath, Channabasavaiah Shivukumar Mahalingaiah, and Shadakshari participated in the protest.
Under the central government’s support price scheme, the NAFED organization in collaboration with the Karnataka State Marketing Board is purchasing husked coconuts in the taluk area. Nearly 99 percent of the registered coconuts have already been purchased. The purchase process will continue until June 29.Farmers who have registered but have not yet sold their coconuts are advised to visit registration counters at Tipaturu, Konehalli, Karadalu, and KB on June 22.
