Ahead of Nepal’s final match in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, head coach Monty Desai expressed his team’s excitement to compete against Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Stadium. Despite being eliminated from the Super Eights race after a narrow one-run loss to South Africa, Nepal is determined to make a strong showing against Bangladesh, who are vying for the last Super Eight spot from Group D.

‘We are writing our own story, so I’m not focused on disrupting anyone else’s plans. In the dressing room, we talked about imagining that we had crossed the finish line in our last game. We want to believe we’re on three points and playing Bangladesh to qualify for the Super Eights. If we bring that mindset and fight to the end, we can leave with pride, thinking about what could have been. But we definitely want to put on a show,’ Desai said at the pre-match press conference.

Reflecting on the emotional match against South Africa, Desai noted that Nepal’s return to the T20 World Cup after a decade will boost cricket’s growth in the country. Despite the loss, Nepal has shown they belong on the world stage.

One of the highlights of the tournament has been the tremendous support from Nepalese fans, who have shown up in large numbers at various venues. Desai appreciated the passionate fans, acknowledging their role as the ‘12th man’ for the team. He encouraged them to keep supporting Nepal’s cricket dreams as the team strives for more opportunities against top-tier nations.
