The department of Industrial Training and Employment and District Administration organised an apprenticeship fair at Dakshina Kannada Government Industrial Training Institute (Women) here on Thursday April 21.
As many as 34 industrial institutions and 197 students who passed ITI took part in the apprenticeship fair. As per Apprenticeship Act 1961, 176 students for various jobs were selected for apprenticeship training.
Mangaluru City Corporation corporator Shakeela Kava inaugurated the apprenticeship fair.
Addressing the gathering, she lauded the interest of industrial institutions for taking part in the apprenticeship fair. She also said that the apprenticeship fair will be helpful in building good relationship between the industries and training institutions. It will play a vital role in training the ITI students as per the demand of the industries, she said.
Government Industrial Training Institution, Mangaluru, IMC president Jeevan Saldhana said that the union and state government is giving more importance for ITI. He also said that the work to upgrade ITIs by the state government along with TATA and union government’s STRIVE project is in process. This will also help in creating skilled employees and development of the industries, he said.
District Industrial Center, Yeyyadi, Mangaluru joint director Vivekananda, Mangaluru district skill development officer Hemachandra, KIA/AC STRIVE president Prakash Kalbhavi, former president Ajith Kamath, MSME assistant director Shruthi were present on the stage. Industrial Training Institute principal, students and employees of the industries were present.
District nodal officer Balakrishna A welcomed and said that the process of National Apprentice appointment should go on. It should be registered in apprenticeshipindia.org website. The students and the industries should enrol in the website in more number and use the facility of the government effectively, he said.
