Just hours after his inauguration, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took swift action by signing his first official decree, authorizing the disbursement of Rs 100 crore for the Chief Minister’s Social Security Scheme (CMSSS). This initiative is expected to assist around 80,000 individuals throughout the state, encompassing elderly citizens aged 60 and above, widows, and persons with disabilities (divyang jan).

Due to delays in the state budget formulation caused by recent general elections, Khandu emphasized the urgency of ensuring that CMSSS benefits promptly reach those in need. The government’s approach, guided by the principles of Antyodaya, underscores its commitment to supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized segments of society, as per an official statement.

In the previous fiscal year, the scheme disbursed Rs 90 crore, benefiting 56,030 elderly individuals, 8,782 widows, and 3,950 differently abled persons. Initiated in 2019 under the Khandu administration, the CMSSS funds are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
