The City Police busted a trafficking case involving a month-old child, arresting five, including two women. It has now come to light that one of the accused, Abdulgafar Ladakhan, is a quack who runs a clinic in Kittur town. Taluk health official Dr SS Siddannavar visited the clinic in Kittur after Ladakhan’s name was reported in connection with the child trafficking case.
Addressing the media, Dr Siddannavar said that Ladakhan, the accused displayed his qualifications on a name board outside the clinic as MBBS, and his wife, Dr AFA Ladakhan, as BHMS. His wife is eligible to practice homoeopathic medicine. However, he has no qualifications to engage in medical practice because he is a quack. The officer said that they will be seizing the clinic. Based on a complaint from Rajkumar Rathod, Coordinator of the Government Children’s Adoption centre in the District Child Protection Unit, the Police arrested the main accused, Mahadevi Bahubali Jain of Neginahal village in Bailhongal taluk.
According to the complaint, she was involved in the illegal act of buying children from needy families and selling them to affluent families. In this case, the main accused had purchased the 30-day-old child for Rs 60,000. Posing as a child buyer, the Police arranged the deal for Rs 1.4 lakh and arrested Mahadevi when she came to sell the child. Mahadevi is a nurse by profession. Based on the information provided by Mahadevi, the Police arrested quack Ladakhan and three others.
The City Police Commissioner, Iada Martin Marbaniang, stated that the Police department is investigating the case from all angles.
