An online campaign has been initiated following the Lok Sabha election defeat in the Dakshina Kannada constituency, advocating for a change in Congress leadership in the district. Party workers and supporters are urging the replacement of MLC K Harish Kumar as District Congress Committee President.
Criticism is being voiced against party leaders for their perceived failure to conduct effective campaigns, especially in the absence of candidates from SDPI, CPM, and other major political parties in the constituency. Padmaraj Poojary’s electoral loss is attributed to the lack of enthusiasm among party leaders, according to some party workers.
Poojary campaigned without substantial support from senior leaders but still managed a commendable performance in the election, noted another party member.
In response to criticisms, Harish Kumar stated that critiques are commonplace in politics. The party intends to conduct a comprehensive analysis of polling data on a block-by-block basis in the district. A meeting has been arranged with party leaders, block presidents, MLAs, and former candidates to discuss the election setback. KPCC Vice-President Ivan D’Souza will also attend the meeting, where an in-depth examination of areas of party setback and necessary remedial actions will be conducted.
Despite the defeat, candidate Poojary refrained from assigning blame to anyone and accepted responsibility for the loss. He expressed his commitment to revitalizing the party’s presence in all districts’ booths moving forward.
