Bengaluru witnessed heavy rainfall in numerous areas of the Silicon City on Saturday afternoon, leaving motorists stranded amidst flooded streets. The incessant rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, persisted for over an hour, exacerbating the situation.
According to the weather department, the downpour is expected to persist for another three to four days. The onset of monsoon in the state has been heralded by a storm brewing in the Arabian Sea, resulting in cloudy weather since Friday morning. The rainfall intensified around 2 pm after starting as a drizzle around 1 pm.
The prolonged rain led to waterlogging on city roads, rendering them impassable for motorists. Even after 4 pm, showers continued in various parts of the city, including outlying areas such as Mysore Road, Kengeri, Biddi, KR Puram, Hersaghatta, and Kanakapura Road, as well as central areas like Gandhi Nagar, Chikkapet, Chamarajpet, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Residency Road, Kabban Road, Halasur, Hebbal, and Yesvantpur.
The sudden deluge disrupted the weekend plans of Bangaloreans, who typically venture out for shopping and outings during this time. With heavy rainfall forecasted for the next three days, residents are advised to exercise caution.
The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for June 3 and 4 in the southern interior districts of Mysore, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Bangalore, signaling the possibility of further heavy rainfall.
