The Telangana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has instructed the state women development and child welfare department to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the recently exposed child selling operation within the state and to take necessary action.
Responding to media reports regarding the racket, the commission urged the department to conduct a thorough inquiry to identify the individuals responsible and to implement appropriate measures. Additionally, the commission advised the department to enhance surveillance to prevent potential transactions involving the sale and purchase of children across the state, prioritizing the safety of children to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to a police official, 16 children have been rescued from the operation and placed in a state-run children’s home. Following the separation of infants from childless women who had purchased them through the racket, authorities explained the adoption process to them. Some women, accompanied by their families, became emotional when the children were taken away, expressing their love and care for the kids.

Despite appeals for relief, the police clarified that those involved in the illegal purchase of children are subject to legal action. Counseling sessions have been conducted for them. The police recently uncovered an interstate child-selling network, arresting 11 individuals who were trafficking infants between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with infants reportedly being sold for sums ranging from Rs 1.80 lakh to Rs 5.50 lakh. The arrests followed investigations based on information about infants being trafficked from various locations, including Delhi and Pune, and sold to childless couples in the region.
