West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meditation session in Kanyakumari is televised, her party, the Trinamool Congress, will file a complaint with the Election Commission. She believes airing it would break the Model Code of Conduct. Modi plans to meditate at Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari after wrapping up his Lok Sabha polls campaign on May 30.
Banerjee emphasized that meditation is fine but broadcasting it isn’t. She argued it’s a way of influencing voters during the quiet period between campaigning and voting. Modi is set to meditate from May 30 to June 1 at Dhyana Mandapam, where Swami Vivekananda, whom Modi admires, had a vision.
Banerjee accused Modi of meditating for 48 hours before each election’s final phase and warned against BJP’s return to power, claiming it would endanger democracy, religion, and culture. She dismissed Modi’s claim of BJP’s triumph in Bengal and pledged TMC’s support to the opposition I.N.D.I.A. alliance. Banerjee vowed to defeat BJP in Bengal, alleging a secret understanding between BJP and CPI(M) in some constituencies.
She held a campaign meeting at Baruipur, responding to Modi’s remarks made there earlier. Banerjee reaffirmed her commitment to all communities and criticized the Calcutta High Court’s decision on OBC reservations, arguing it would affect people of all religions.
