In addressing the media on Tuesday, veteran BJP leader and former Minister KS Eshwarappa emphasized the need for purifying state BJP politics, stressing the importance of freeing the party from dynastic politics. He expressed his support for Raghupati Bhat, the candidate for the south-west graduates and teachers’ constituency in Udupi. Eshwarappa voiced disappointment at the prevalence of dynastic politics within the BJP, likening it to the Congress’ culture. He criticized the party for favoring those close to BS Yediyurappa for tickets, neglecting others who have contributed significantly to the party’s efforts. Eshwarappa highlighted his disagreement with being labeled a rebel candidate, asserting his independence and commitment to the party. Despite feeling betrayed by the denial of an MLC ticket to Bhat, he remains confident in Bhat’s electoral prospects, citing overwhelming support beyond expectations. He called for the purification of state BJP politics to restore its focus on Hindutva and to address what he perceives as selfish leadership within the party.
